Troubleshooting

The problems people actually hit with this resource, and what each one is.

restart does not re-read fxmanifest.lua. If you added a file — a new locale, a new model — run refresh in the server console first and then restart mic_vape. Changes to config.lua only need the restart.

Using a vape does nothing, and there is no error

Section titled “Using a vape does nothing, and there is no error”

Almost always the start order. mic_vape looks for es_extended or qb-core when it starts; if your framework starts after it, no vape is registered as usable and nothing is printed. Put ensure mic_vape below your framework in server.cfg and restart the server. On QBox, that means below qbx_core: it provides qb-core, which is what mic_vape looks for.

If the order is right:

  • The item name is not in Config.Vapes. Only names listed there are usable. transform_vape, freeze_vape and gravity_vape are in the item files but not in the config — see Items.
  • The item does not exist in your inventory. Add it from inventory_items/.
  • Your framework is not ESX, QBCore or QBox under those resource names. Detection looks for es_extended and qb-core by name (QBox’s qbx_core provides qb-core); anything else needs a branch in the two bridge/ files.
  • The vape is not out. Use the item first; E only works with a vape in hand.
  • The player rebound it. The puff is the “Vape Puff” key binding under Settings › Key Bindings › FiveM. Changing Config.PuffKey only sets the default for players who have never had the binding.
  • It is on cooldown. Power vapes wait 1 to 10 seconds between puffs. With notifications off, nothing says so.

Config.ShowNotifications ships as false. Set it to true for “took out”, “on cooldown”, “empty” and the power messages.

Either it ran out — it had reached its puffs count and one was removed from the inventory — or the item left the inventory (dropped, given, stored). The resource checks every 2.5 seconds and puts the vape away when the item is gone.

Mango and Paella ship with 2 puffs and Ginger with 1, so those three disappear fast. Raise puffs in config.lua if you want them to last.

The server console prints “[mic_vape] OnVapePuff triggered…” on every puff

Section titled “The server console prints “[mic_vape] OnVapePuff triggered…” on every puff”

That is the stress hook with nothing in it. Config.Stress is on and OnVapePuff in bridge/server_bridge.lua only prints that line. Put your stress logic there, or set Config.Stress = false.

It teleports to your map waypoint when its effect time ends (5 seconds by default), not at the puff. Set a waypoint first. Without one, it tells you so if notifications are on.

The car speed vape said “No waypoint set!”

Section titled “The car speed vape said “No waypoint set!””

That is the text of the car_speed line in the shipped locale files; it is the message for the car boost itself. Reword it in locales/. The vape needs you to be in a vehicle at the moment of the puff.

It picks from every vape in Config.Vapes except itself and the normal vape, and that includes the flavours. A roll that lands on a flavour gives smoke and nothing else.

With Config.StaticHealth = true the puff raises health to Config.Health, and only if you are below it. The game’s health runs from 100 to 200, so a value of 100 or less does nothing. Use 101–200, or turn StaticHealth off so each puff adds Config.Health.

Spanish or French shows “Locale [es] does not exist”

Section titled “Spanish or French shows “Locale [es] does not exist””

The shipped locales/es.lua and locales/fr.lua hold German text registered as de. Translate the file and change its key to es or fr. See Customization.

The models come from the resource’s own stream/ folder with def_props.ytyp. Check both are still there, that the prop in Config.Vapes is one of the ten mic_… names, and that nothing else on your server streams a model with the same name.

That is how it works: using the same vape again puts it away. Using a different vape swaps the one in your hand.
